Temperature measurements of pacemaker leads in a 1.0T high field open MRI using various MR sequences: initial results
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable diagnostic method for many cardiovascular diseases. To date, patients with pacemakers are contra-indicated for cardiac MRI exams due to several effects that can occur during the MRI procedure: a) heating of the lead-tip, and b) less hazardous sensing errors and device malfunctions. Almost all measurements on MRI pacemaker compatibility have been conducted on classic 1.5 or 3T cylindrical wholebody MRI systems. In contrast, this study focused on the use of a high field open MRI (HFO) system due to its advantageous properties of RF fields which are commonly made responsible for the induction of lead heating.

Comparison of temperature measurements of pacemaker leads in a 1.0T high field open MRI and a 1.5T classic cylindrical MRI: initial results
Introduction As of today, the use of MRI procedures on patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers is prohibited due to safety issues. The implants can interact with the RF fields of the MRI device. The most hazardous effect is heating at the tip of the lead, less dangerous are sensing errors and malfunctions of the devices, because they disappear completely after the procedure. The majority of ...

Background Cardiac MRI (cMRI) has evolved as the non-invasive reference standard for accurate and highly reproducible determination of cardiac function and myocardial viability. Thus, cMRI is widespread and increasingly utilized in the clinical practice. The introduction of open high-field (HFO) MR scanners offers advantages not only for imageguided interventions, examinations of patients with ...
متن کاملDelayed contrast-enhanced cardiac MRI at an open 1.0T MR-system comparison of conventional segmented 3D gradient echo and phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequences: initial results
Background Delayed contrast enhanced (DE) cardiac MR imaging (cMRI) has become the gold standard for the in vivo detection and quantification of myocardial infarcts (MI). Up to now, cMRI had to be performed in a closed bore environment due to technical constraints of the existing open low-field MR scanners. The introduction of an open 1.0T MR-system with high gradient performance has paved the ...
متن کاملCardiac pacemaker: in vitro assessment at 1.5 T.
BACKGROUND In vitro testing is used to determine safe parameters before performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on a patient with an implant. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate a cardiac pacemaker using a 1.5-T magnetic resonance (MR) system. METHODS A modern cardiac pacemaker (INSIGNIA I PLUS, Model 1298, and FINELINE II, Model 4471, pacing leads; Guidant Corporation,...
متن کاملFirst-pass myocardial stress perfusion MRI using k-t BLAST at an open MR-system: initial results in comparison to FFR measurements
Background First-pass myocardial stress perfusion MR imaging (MRI) is routinely used for the detection of myocardial ischemia in patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease (CAD). Up to now, cardiac MRI stress testing had to be performed in a closed bore environment. To allow for MR stress perfusion in claustrophobic patients and to improve monitoring during stress examination and ...
